An invitation

Come in and share what you are making…

“A den is a temporary shelter, a playful one. A home-made space for hanging out, sitting in the half-light, telling stories. It is cosy, slightly secret– often cushions are involved. Mostly when my daughter makes them – a big sheet hung over the edge of the kitchen table, or the sofa turned on its side – it is a space for children only, or if I am invited in, then it is a tight squeeze. Alice in Wonderland-like, I am over-sized. Now, MWM presents a den with a difference – for adults first, but children are allowed…” (Matilda Leyser, MWM)

How it works

The Mother Den is a safe, supportive space, into which you can climb for an hour of your day, and share what you are making, or dreaming about making. You could read a poem, a paragraph, try out a song, show a painting, a costume, or a cake. Or you might just want to share how it’s going, or not going, or the idea you have had but have not yet begun to work on. You can ask for specific feedback, or just be witnessed, or encouraged. A den for ideas, half-made, newly-grown, whatever you are sheltering…

There are 5 spaces to SHARE. Each sharing will be up to 5 minutes, but can be shorter. We will contact you the week before to ask what you plan to share - don’t worry this can change, but it will help you to plan and commit to sharing something! We welcome up to 10 WITNESSES at each event. A witness is there to be supportive, to be inspired and enjoy what others bring to offer.

Is it for me?

All of our groups are designed to welcome women and non binary people who are mothers, parents or carers at any stage in their journey. Makers of all interests and disciplines are encouraged to join us, whether your creative identity is a profession or passionate (or both!), or lying dormant, you are welcome. As this meeting takes place online, we are able to welcome you from anywhere in the world! Children, of any age, are welcome too. No apology for their presence, needs or noise is ever required. Your dual role as care giver and maker is given equal status at all our events.
