Mission

Mothers Who Make is a growing international initiative aimed at supporting women and non-binary people who are carers and artists - professional and/or passionate – writers, painters, actors, dancers, musicians, film-makers….every kind of maker is welcomed, and every kind of mother and carer. 

Our mission is to support and connect women and non-binary people who hold the dual roles of carer and maker. We want to hold space for the possibility that their work as carers might enrich rather than undermine their creative practice, whilst also acknowledging the myriad challenges and incredibly diverse range of experiences involved in holding these two roles  - all the brilliance, all the struggle. We are not a campaign group. We are a peer-support network but we believe that simply by our presence and our practices within the cultural landscape we can help to effect change. We have a vision of a world in which instead of womxn 'dropping out' to have children, their experiences and insights as mothers and carers might be 'picked up' and fed into their field of work. Through our presence we hope to contribute to the wider conversation about caring roles and care as a force within the arts sector.
