Closing Meeting
For the most part these meetings are the same as a regular mentoring session. The main change is that you give more time to the closing section of your exchange.
EXTRA APPRECIATIONS!:
After each person has had their turn in both roles, of mentor and mentee, take time to do a double round of ‘appreciations’ (and then there is one more ‘appreciation exchange at the very end – see below!)
1) Each name something you are taking away and/or for which you are grateful within the exchange that you have held this week.
2) Each take time to reflect on and name the things you are taking away from the peer mentoring exchange, as a whole, during this month.
LONGER TERM INTENTIONS:
After your appreciations, as above, please take a little more time each to consider your intentions going forwards. Think back over the intentions you have chosen each week during the month and what has been most helpful and impactful.
Bearing in mind what you have learnt and valued, what are you going to hold, gently, in focus going forwards?
On the whole, it is good if your intention is tangible:
e.g. I am going to do 10mins writing practice every day.
Or, if it is more intangible – e.g. ‘I want to put less pressure on myself’ - have a think, and try saying out loud to your partner what this might mean, day to day.
If any of this is difficult, you can ask your partner to ask you a question. Some of the questions which I sent round in Week 2’s guidelines are great ones for helping you to set intentions and gain clarity.
CLOSING APPRECIATION:
Lastly, a way to thank each other…..
Please take a moment each to feedback one thing (or more!) that you have noticed and have appreciated in your partner. It could be about how they have fulfilled either role – i.e it could be something you have noticed and respected in them as a mentee, and/or as a mentor.
