What's it all about?
Mothers Who Make USA is a twice-monthly peer support group meeting dedicated to supporting the dual role of mother and marker/artist/creative, in any discipline and at any stage of their personal or professional making. We are a hub of the international, grass-roots movement, Mothers Who Make, based in the UK, founded by Matilda Leyser and Lizzy Humber. Every hub aims to connect local mother makers through peer support meetings, sharing events, workshops, and online discussion.
Who is it for?
Every kind of maker is welcome -- professional and/or passionate – writers, painters, performers, art activists, film makers, musicians, producers, bakers, crafters, architects, producers, historians….
Every kind of mother is welcome -- biological, adoptive, step, surrogate, foster, bereaved, grand, great grand, to be ….
You are invited to join this inspiring and growing community. Please feel free to bring along your children, of any age, whether they are inside you, beside you or running around the room. But equally just bring yourself.
What to expect:
Twice-monthly peer support sessions give creative mothers the chance to explore their practice and creative identities, valuing equally their dual roles of mother and artist. We want as many people as possible to be part of the unfolding MWM conversations. Our reach is across generations and art forms, continents and lifestyles – we are thrilled by the plurality of voices that are part of this discussion. In other groups professional connections have been formed and led to the beginning of joint projects between participants – so it’s a great way to meet and collaborate with other mothers from different creative backgrounds.
Cost:
Mothers Who Make peer support meetings are not part of a business or program and you will not experience any up-selling or requests for additional funds.
Sessions are run on a donation basis, a suggested donation is $5/$7 (via Paypal or Venmo) but donations should not keep you from attending. Any donation goes directly to the operational costs of the mother/maker facilitating the session, as this is an otherwise unfunded position.
If you have any questions or coming along for the first time feel free to drop us a line.

Connect with the wider MWM Community:
“Mothers Who Make is a place to share experience, network and connect simply on a human level at a time when they may feel particularly isolated. It also offers a forum and springboard to potentially make new work.”
“I felt like I wasn’t an artist anymore because I wasn’t making anything. I felt lost in my creative practice and isolated from the arts community before I joined. But the circle of women at every meeting inspired me to keep making, to value my mothering, to find the creativity in caring, and motivated me to keep going. Now I’ve written a solo show I’m taking around to the festivals this summer. All because of the support and inspiration I got from MWM.”
